Privacy policy
Last updated: 21 October 2026
Quiete runs phone-free weekend retreats, starting with a pilot weekend in Sicily for people in Malta. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why, who we share it with and what your rights are. We keep it short because we collect very little.
Who we are
Quiete is run by [to confirm: full legal name of the person or company], [to confirm: postal address in Malta]. We are the “controller” of your personal information under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Malta’s Data Protection Act.
For anything about your data, email us at michael@quiete.me.
What we collect and why
The waiting list. If you join the waiting list, we collect your email address. We use it only to tell you about Quiete retreats: when dates are announced, when places open, and news about the pilot weekend. We do this because you have asked us to (your consent). You can leave at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email.
The survey. If you fill in our survey, we collect your answers, and anything personal you choose to include in them. We use them to plan our retreats. We do this with your consent, which you give by submitting the survey.
The newsletter. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your name and email address. We use them only to send you the newsletter, because you have asked us to (your consent). You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every email. The waiting list and the newsletter share one mailing list, so unsubscribing stops all our emails to you.
Enquiries. If you send us a message through our contact form, we collect your name, email address and message, plus anything else you choose to tell us. We use them only to reply to you, because you have asked us to get in touch (our legitimate interest in answering you). We keep messages for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry.
Our WhatsApp channel. If you follow our WhatsApp channel, we don’t see your phone number or name, and other followers can’t see them either. We can only see how many people follow the channel and how they react to posts. WhatsApp itself (WhatsApp Ireland Limited, part of Meta) handles your use of the channel under its own privacy policy.
Videos. Our videos are hosted on YouTube. Nothing from YouTube loads until you press play; when you do, the video plays through YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, and YouTube (Google Ireland Limited) handles that under its own privacy policy.
Visiting the website. We do not use analytics, advertising trackers or social media pixels, and this website does not set cookies. Our fonts and images are served from our own website, not from third parties. Like any website, our hosting provider processes your IP address and basic technical information (such as your browser type) in order to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse.
We never sell your personal information, and we never ask for payment details on this website.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of trusted services to run the website. They process your information on our behalf and only as we instruct:
- Mailchimp (Intuit Inc., USA) stores the waiting list and newsletter subscribers and sends our emails. Mailchimp records whether emails are opened and which links are clicked, which helps us see whether our emails are useful.
- Tally (Tally BV, Belgium) collects and stores survey answers. The survey page loads Tally’s form from Tally’s own servers.
- FormSubmit (formsubmit.co) passes messages from our contact form on to our email inbox.
- YouTube (Google Ireland Limited) plays our videos, only once you press play.
- Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., USA) hosts this website.
Some of these companies are based in, or store data in, the United States. Where your information leaves the European Economic Area, it is protected by the safeguards the GDPR requires, such as the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your waiting-list and newsletter details until you unsubscribe, or until we stop running retreats or the newsletter, whichever comes first. We keep survey answers for as long as we need them to plan retreats, then delete them or make them anonymous.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct it, or to delete it;
- object to, or ask us to limit, how we use it;
- receive it in a format you can take elsewhere;
- withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting anything we did before you withdrew it.
To use any of these rights, email us at michael@quiete.me. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to Malta’s data protection authority, the Information and Data Protection Commissioner. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
Children
Our retreats and this website are for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your information, we will update this page and the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will tell the people on our waiting list by email.
